ukaff home page announcement: ukaff's service has now ended due to funding decisions made by stfc ukaff is no longer able to provide an open access, peer reviewed, high performance computing facility to the uk astrophysics community. details of publications resulting directly from simulations performed on the facility, some movies and pictures and press releases are still available via the links above. welcome to the ukaff website announcement: end of ukaff service ukaff's current funding ended on 31st december 2007 and the facility is no longer able to provide a computational resource to the uk astrophysics community. an application has been made to stfc's hpc funding call to provide a major upgrade to ukaff and continue its operation for a further five years. stfc's own funding problems mean that no grant announcements are currently being made and it appears unlikely that ukaff will receive further funding. the (ukaff) provides the following: supercomputing facilities for the uk theoretical astrophysics community, based at leicester parallel programming help and training, along with access to the ukaff machine for development purposes a centre of excellence to help maintain the uk's position as a world leader in the field of theoretical astrophysics ukaff is hosted by the theoretical astrophysics group at the department of physics & astronomy , university of leicester . ukaff news 8th january 2008: ukaff closure the ukaff1a system will continue to be accessible, but unsupported, until 31st january 2008 to allow users to copy all important data to their local systems. access will not be possible from 1st february and remaining data will not be retained. 14th december 2007: disruption to power supply the power in the building housing ukaff will be turned off first thing on monday morning 17th dec. power will then be supplied by a generator until mains power is returned on friday afternoon 21st dec. service time has been scheduled from 4pm on sunday 16th december to allow the cluster to shutdown cleanly. there will be a further period of service time on friday 21st december. whilst on generator power, full service provision cannot be guaranteed. 7th september 2007: ao28 allocations allocations from the last application round, ao28, have now been published . 24th july 2007: new amd opteron processor nodes from ibm now available four new opteron processor nodes (2x 4 cpu cores + 2x 8 cpu cores) have now been integrated into the ukaff1a cluster. the website has been updated to include details of the hardware , compiler and changes to the job submission process. 20th june 2007: ao27 allocations allocations from the last application round, ao27, have now been published . 20th june 2007: ao28 deadline -
